A man has been hospitalized after an electric scooter accident in Twickenham, southwest London.

Horrified witnesses told how they feared for the life of the man as he lay “trembling” on the ground after the collision on Heath Road.

After the accident on Thursday evening, several police cars and ambulances were pictured on the street.

Twickenham shopkeeper Ibrahim Bozkurt, 43, witnessed the aftermath.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

“I served a customer who told me that a man was hit by a car and I drove off straight away.”

“He was lying on the floor in shock, trembling and his head was covered in blood.”

“After the police arrived, they told everyone to move,” he said.

“Electric scooters are so dangerous. I don’t know how, but the car wasn’t damaged.”

Another witness said: “Helicopter paramedics were working on the patient on the street. Passers-by were shocked and could clearly see the scooter.”

“All buses were secured and crowds waited at bus stops further along the route on London Road without knowing what had happened.”

At the intersection of Heath Road and Radnor Road and at the intersection with Cross Deep and King Street, there is a police cordon in both lanes according to witnesses.

The area is participating in the London e-scooter public rental test that began last month.

It is not yet known whether the affected scooter is privately owned or available as part of the study. However, there is an e-scooter parking station on Heath Road, where the incident occurred.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 7:06 pm on July 15th to report a collision with an electric scooter on Heath Road, Twickenham.

“We sent an ambulance crew, an operations manager, and a paramedic in a car. We also deployed London’s Air Ambulance.

“One man was treated on site and primarily taken to a large trauma center.”

The Standard has contacted the police for more information.
