4 males questioned about hit-and-run with mobility scooters

Four men were arrested after a pensioner was seriously injured in a hit and run.

The 88-year-old victim was traveling with an electric scooter when a moped hit him on Saturday afternoon in Widnes.

The moped driver – and that of a quad that was believed to be traveling with him – fled the scene.

Emergency services were called to Lower House Lane just before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday following reports of the crash.

The pensioner was taken to hospital, where he was being treated for serious injuries this afternoon.

Cheshire Police have since discovered that his mobility vehicle crashed on a blue Piaggio Beverly moped that was traveling on a fluorescent yellow quad bike.

The police are cordoning off all streets that lead to Lower House Lane in Widnes.

The incident led to a high-profile search for the drivers of these vehicles, which included a police helicopter.

Police today confirmed that a number of arrests had been made in connection with the investigation.

A 26-year-old man from Runcorn and a 20-year-old from Widnes were arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after a collision and causing serious injuries from dangerous driving and drug abuse.

A 31-year-old and a 27-year-old man, both from Widnes, were also arrested on suspicion of serious injury from dangerous driving and failure to stop after a collision.

The police are cordoning off all streets that lead to Lower House Lane in Widnes.

They remained in custody on Sunday afternoon, where they were questioned by investigators.
